Formal UGG-NCR meetings for this season follows our traditional approach of being convened on the fourth Tuesday of each month, with the exception of December where there we will not be any meeting. Meetings will also be suspended for the summer months of June, July and August. Start time is 7:30 PM (Eastern) unless otherwise noted.
Since the start of January 2020, the UGG-NCR’s formal monthly meetings have been delivered as on-line “Webinars” rather than in-person presentations / discussions.

“Ghosts in a Photograph” by Myrna Kostash
Award-winning writer Myrna Kostash discussed her latest book “Ghosts in a Photograph” which delves into the lives of her grandparents, all of whom moved from Galicia, now present-day Ukraine, to Alberta at the turn of the twentieth century. Discovering a packet of family mementos, Kostash began questioning what she knows about her extended families’ pasts and whose narrative is allowed to prevail in Canada. For this book, Myrna was recently awarded the prestigious KOBZAR Book Award by the Shevchenko Foundation.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Myrna Kostash is the author of the classic “All of Baba’s Children”, “No Kidding: Inside the World of Teenage Girls”, winner of the Alberta Culture and Writers’ Guild of Alberta prize for Best Non-Fiction, and “Prodigal Daughter: A Journey to Byzantium”, which received the 2010 City of Edmonton Book Prize, the Writers’ Guild of Alberta Wilfred Eggleston Award for Best Nonfiction, and was shortlisted for the 2011 Runcimann Award (UK). More information about Myran and her works can be found on her website.
