Sunday in Riccione : Ukrainian Nurses’ and Civilian Women’s Camp, Riccione, Italy, 1945-1947 by Krystyna Kiszczuk-Killam

Krystyna Kiszczuk-Killam made a presentation about her book which describes a little known episode in the history of Ukrainians during the Second World War.

Based on memories, documents, and biographical essays, the book refers to women nurses of the Halychyna Division and Ukrainian Self-Defense Legion, who after the end of the Second World War surrendered to the British and interned in Riccione, Italy.

Krystyna is a teacher with a Diploma in European Studies and a BA (Hons). She was born in in Reggio Emilia, Italy and moved with her Mother Osypa to England in September 1949, well after the liquidation of the Rimini camp and Riccione camp. Krystyna and her family were very active in the Ukrainian community in Leicester, England where they lived – and more recently in Canada after returning in 2015.
